NA FIANNA GOLF CLASSIC
FRIDAY 10th JULY 2009
KILLYMOON GOLF CLUB

Winners of the Golf Classic Paul Hughes, Damian Gervin, Olen Watt and Paul Rouse

Yes folks, that's right.... the honours on the day went to Brackaville!!

Friday 10th July saw the club hold its Golf Classic in Killymoon Golf Club in Cookstown, and a fantastic day was had by all.  We couldn't have asked for better weather, the course was in pristine condition, and a great days craic prevailed.  And the golf wasn't bad either.  An impressive 129 points was required to win the classic competition, 2nd prize (a fourball at Concra Wood in Castleblaney) going to Brian Corey, E Corey, JP McHugh and C Campbell with 125 points, followed closely by Vinnie Donnelly's team of E Conway, E McStravog and K Hamilton with 124 (who each won Adidas Golf Shoes).  Fourth prize (Footjoy golf t-shirts) went to  P McKague / M Murphy / S Kerr / D Mullan who shot 121 points.

2nd prize - a fourball at Concra Wood went to B Corey, E Corey, JP McHugh and C Campbell - pictured with Chairman Gerard McStravick

The best individual score on the day was shot by Phillip Lamont, an incredible 46 points!

Not to mention the craic that was had in the side competition.  All but 2 teams entered for the chance to win a night's B&B in the prestigious Carton House Hotel in County Kildare as well as a round of golf on the Montgomery or O'Meara course.  An unbelieveable prize, especially given that the venue has hosted the Irish Open on more than one occasion.  The rules were simple... teams were provided with a special yellow "Carton House" ball.  Players on each team had to take turns playing with the yellow ball.  But there was one catch... lose the ball and you're out of the competition.  It was a recipe for great fun, and only 10 balls made it back to the clubhouse!!!!  And what's more, the prize went directly into critics corner!!  Cyril Shields and his team, Petesy Kennedy, Joe Timlin and Paddy McShane will be enjoying the fruits of their days labour when they head off to County Kildare after shooting an impressive 44 points with the yellow ball.  But they were pushed all the way by the organising committee who obviously had eyes on this prize too.... Connor Lowe's team and James Conway's team shooting 41 points and Mal Whitmore's team shooting 38 points.

Winners of the Carton House Competition - Cyril Shields, Petesy Kennedy, Joe Timlin & Paddy McShane

A good day for Paddy McShane was made better with the news that he'd won the longest drive competition - winning him a Taylormade Cap, a sleeve of titleist balls and a Taylormade Glove.  The same prize was won by Shane Timlin for getting his tee shot closest to the pin on the 2nd hole.

The organising committee would like to thank all those who helped out in the run up to the day, getting teams and sponsors, and those who helped to officiate on the day.  A word of thanks also to Killymoon Golf Club who had the course in brilliant condition, and the Fairways Restaurant who provided a delicious meal afterward for all the golfers.

The final word of thanks must go to all our sponsors for the day - Concrete Flooring Systems, Connor Lowe, O Neill’s Bar (The Square) Mal Whitmore, Jarlath Devlin, Dundalk Building Supplies, O Neill & Brady Ltd, SDG Construction Technology Ltd, O Neill of Clonoe Ltd, John Stevenson & Co Ltd, Quinn Group, Landi’s Café, Sullivans  Gift Ware & Newsagent, Coalisland Clothing Company, Chieftain Engineering, Frank Hughes Bookmakers, McGirr`s Bar, PF Fireplaces, JC Campbell, Quinn Fresh, Glenavon House Hotel, Greenvale Hotel, Hagan Flooring, Spincraft, TC Crawford, Herron Grocers, Jim Hughes Bookmakers, Cavanagh/Kelly Chartered Accountants, Swisher Hygiene Services, Island Limos, Bigg`s Buses, Michael Dorman Chemist, Kieran’s Food To Go, Martec Ni Ltd, Mace (Devlins), Supervalu,  Brian McKernan & Co Ltd, First Trust Bank, Begley’s Sports & Gifts, Northern Confectioneries & The Sign Factory.
